Material Handler

Material Handlers are responsible for operating industrial trucks to load and unload materials/ deliveries and move them to and from storage areas, machines, loading docks, and into trucks or storage facilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Keep updated records of inventory
  • Produce lot numbers, material weights, and sorting results
  • Receive, distribute, and store products as directed in designated, secure locations
  • Review shipments for quality and accuracy; review accompanying documents for accuracy
  • Prepare and maintain records of materials received and shipped, damages, shortages, and quality deficiencies by examining products to verify conformance to quality standards
  • Identify and transport requested materials to and from various locations including machines, loading docks, trucks, and storage areas
  • Access production schedule and/or truck schedules and then identify, verify and transport material to and from designated areas accordingly
  • Load and unload material from trucks and storage areas
  • Stack goods/ material in the correct storage bays, following inventory control instructions
  • Perform forklift Daily Inspections Checklists along with visual inspections; report maintenance concerns
  • Perform other related duties as requested

Skills

  • Ability to handle equipment and vehicles safely and sensibly; situational awareness
  • Regularly sitting on a powered industrial truck
  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds and adjust body position to bend, stoop, stand, walk, turn, pivot, and stand for long periods of time
  • Good eye-hand-foot coordination
  • Ability to assess weights and judge distances and heights
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, depending upon season
  • High degree of attention required to prevent injury to others; promote a safe work environment
  • Follow instructions for operating equipment and record keeping
  • Execute assignments in an accurate, timely and safe manner

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience as forklift operator or similar role preferred
  • Satisfactorily pass forklift certification per OSHA standards during on-site training
